A Call to step up
Our mission is to be a growing and committed group of students, united as followers of Christ!
Do not let anyone look down on you because you are young..." I always really loved this verse when I was a teenager. Every time an adult would say something that felt like they were slighting me, I would always come back to this verse and say…”Ha! You can’t look down on me!” I thought Paul was telling his young friend Timothy not to let anyone talk bad about him or question his judgment. Oh I was so wrong. Paul was telling Timothy not to give anyone reason to look down on him. Paul was telling Timothy that even though he was very young, that he was still a follower of Christ and needed to act like it. Paul was telling Timothy that even though he was young, he had to step up and have an even stronger faith and walk with Christ than some of those
around him.
Here in First Life Student Ministry, we are going to challenge you to be Timothy! If you want to be a what we call a “member” of First Life Student Ministry we are going to call on you to step up yourself. Some of you are members of this church; that is not what we are referring to. First Life members are challenged to do some things that help to reflect their individual dedication to Christ. Remember friends, if you are a Christian, you carry the name of Christ. Let’s reflect that to our friends, our families and our church by stepping up in our commitment to the Lord and to the ministry we belong to. I will be the first to step up! I am committing to you the four things that we will be asking of you. In addition, all of our adult leaders will also have to commit to those four things. So now, what about you? Are you willing to step up.
~Lance
What is expected of me as a member?
1. To worship regularly
2. To continue to grow in your faith by participating in a small group study
3. To serve God with your hands by volunteering in service to the congregation and the community
and the world
4. To try your hardest to give financially in some way (not your parents money)
If you choose to not be a member, that is understandable. Not everyone is willing to make these
kinds of commitments. If you choose to not be a member, you still have access to everything that
everyone else does. Nobody gets special treatment for being a member. Everybody gets access to
all the same events and ministries. It’s crazy, I know! But being committed to
Christ...THAT IS FUN STUFF!
